Event Archive - Black Rice, Desarmador, Elizabeth, Vulcan Dub Squad

Sat. November 1st 2003 9 The Pic Pub (No Minors) 9
$8
The Halloween Weekend party continues with this fucking amazing show of international talent. Black Rice are one of Vancouver's most accomplished bands with their car crash at the intersection of classic rock and punk math rock. A truly must see band they last blew the roof off of the Piccadilly Pub in August at one of our always infamous Vice Party's. Unfortunately this will be Desarmador 's last appearance in Vancouver before their return to Guadalajara, Mexico and this will be a sad day as their performances at The Pub have become a thing of legend. Their chaotic brand of punk rock meets Mars Volta sound has become the surprise buzz of this fall. Expect big things from this band in the near future.

Another awesome Vancouver band, Elizabeth makes their first appearance back at the Pic since they embarrassed Washington DC headliners Phaser with their killer performance in September. Their heavy art rock sound has been slaying the competition at this years ‘Shindig' Battle of the Bands and most recently they have been featured in Terminal City. Finally from Toronto, comes the Vulcan Dub Squad who are 5 men dressed in military uniforms and black masks who provide a highly entertaining performance with energetic anthems and gentler melodic pieces. Their sound has been best described as an interesting cross of Mogwai's ambient dirge and the neo garage/soul of the Hives. Along with DJs from Casbah! , WHAP! and Capital Magazine , Dia de los Muertos is definitely the place to be this Saturday night!

on the decks - my! gay! husband ! - The Douggernaut - John Cougar - Robert Robot

Also plenty of prizes and giveaways for those in costume.
