The Pernell Reichert Band are a three piece traveling band from Vancouver, BC, Canada, featuring Pernell on acoustic guitar, hollow-bodied electric slide guitar, harmonica, banjo, and vocals; Ross Fairbairn on bass and background vocals; and Tom Tischer on drums and background vocals. Their music has been described as razor sharp folk, alt country, or cow punk. The band's live act showcases fast folky songs, electric slide guitar songs, foot stomping banjo songs, solo acoustic songs and witty banter with the audience.
Pernell Reichert is a folk singer, songwriter, and fast finger picker. His songs reflect his experiences on the road of life and the highways of the world. As a solo artist, Pernell’s style of guitar playing has been described as high energy, with fast finger picking numbers that keep the listener intrigued. When performing with the band, the tempo is upbeat with a full thick sound that keeps the toes tapping and the crowd dancing.
In 2004, after several years as a tree planter, hobo, roughneck, and solo artist, Pernell founded the band. The following year, they set out on their debut month-long tour of western Canada, toting only Pernell’s solo albums, yet playing new songs written specifically for the three-piece ensemble. In 2007 they embarked on several five-day tours, slowly breaking into the Canadian touring circuit.
2008 was a big year for the Pernell Reichert Band, as they finally released their first self-titled album early in the spring, following it up with a tour of western Canada that took them from Vancouver to Winnipeg and back in 39 days. Pernell spent most of that summer on the road touring solo, hitting the Kootenay area of BC and southern Ontario. Late in 2008 the Pernell Reichert Band went international with a 10-day tour in South Africa, which resulted in a live recording that was later included on their 2011 EP. Upon their return to BC, the band spent a good part of 2009 and 2010 off the road and in the studio, recording the much-anticipated second album. That album, Highway of Tears, was released in 2011, at which time the band set out on the road again, connecting the dots between big city performance in Winnipeg, Saskatoon, and Calgary with smaller town shows in places like Nanton, AB and Sirdar, BC.
2012 saw the band finally breaking into the western Canadian festival circuit, which included The Edge of the World Festival in Haida Gwaii, Calgary’s famous Lilac Festival, and Vancouver's Khatsahlano Music + Arts Fest.
In 2013 the band secured spots at the famous Artswells Festival in beautiful Well's, BC, playing along side acts such as CR Avery and Shred Kelly; The Lytton River Festival; and the Rock Creek Fall Fair sharing the bill with Tim Hus and Fred Penner.
