Event Description

Tickets on sale Sat, Sept 9 @ 10am

Perhaps more than any other songwriter, Bob Dylan has helped define, or at least, encompass, his times. From his early, acoustic folk albums to the records that electrified pop music (Bringing It All Back Home, Blonde on Blonde, Highway 61 Revisited), Dylan has been at the forefront of a revolution in sound and words. Ever elusive, he has resisted pigeonholing with albums that have ranged from the raging rock ’n’ roll of the double live album Before the Flood to the classic heartbreak of Tangled Up in Blue, to the born-again gospel of Slow Train Coming, to the Daniel Lanois-produced Oh Mercy.

The new millennium has seen a resurgence of interest in Dylan. Critics hailed his Chronicles Vol. 1 for the originality of his voice and the insight the autobiographical book provided into the creative process of one of the great artists of the last century. The Martin Scorses-directed documentary No Direction Home showed, in interviews and archival footage, just how revolutionary Dylan’s early records and concerts were. And his albums Time Out of Mind (1997) and Love and Theft (2001) represent his creative revitalization.

Modern Times, the first new album from Bob Dylan in five years, follows those two records, and shows the songwriter at the peak of his powers, fronting a fantastic band in easy command of folk, blues, and rock idioms. A committed road warrior who believes in the idea of the troubadour taking his music to the people, Dylan continues on what some call “the never-ending tour”, playing new songs, revamping classics, and digging up obscure gems from his incomparable catalogue.

Few bands in recent years have excited the public imagination like Kings of Leon. Comprised of three sons of a preacher and a cousin, the Tennessee group mixes Southern swagger, garage rock, and blues for a thoroughly unique sound. Their two records, Youth and Young Manhood and Aha Shake Heartbreak (with a third on the way), and confident live shows have boosted the Kings of Leon’s reputation as one of today’s most promising young acts.
