"The Chemistry of Common Life is the upcoming second full-length by Canadian hardcore band Fucked Up. It will be released on October 7, 2008 on Matador Records in CD and double LP formats. The statement on the label's site describes it as "an expansive epic about the mysteries of birth, death, and the origins of life (and re-living)". The album is named after a book by James F. W. Johnston, which (among other things) describes hallucinogenic properties of mushrooms and plants. The cover art depicts the phenomenon of Manhattanhenge"

an advance leak of this has surfaced & couldn't help but DL it.
Need a taste of the new tunes for the Sept. 7th show.

It really pains me that a band like this manifested itself from Toronto. Even though I am originally from that region...

"Son the Father" opens up with an enchanting melody played on some type of wind flute - then the distortion fades in & then BAM it has you fucking hooked - there is so much depth between the pink eyes & the rest of the band - it is almost like different planes of existence converging

its seems they are back to where they began - alienating fans - smashing conceptions & taking things to strange new places. doing things like this I think it is hard not to come off as pretentious but I think they pull it off - just because it's what you have to expect & in my opinion the exact opposite of what could have been possibly expected

After the smash success [it made most everyones best-of list in 2006] of Hidden world it was hard to fathom how they would follow it up & in true fucked Up form...it will be interesting to see how it is recieved.

"golden seal" i just kept waiting to go somewhere but wound up just being a really creepy segue into "days of last" a real rockin tune with a complexity all it's own - it really is arranged oddly but it delivers.

"crooked head" i really fucking hope they play next month - such a great song.

the closing & title track is something fucking else... - Thu, 21 Aug 2008 11:50pm Edited: Fri, 22 Aug 2008 12:26am

hey dude! I got the leak too. this doesn't really come close to Hidden World for me. it's sort of erratic. there's only a couple great ragers on it, "Son the Father" being one, "Crooked Head" is another, and the title track is a third. the rest are a handful of average songs and somewhat annoying interludes that range into boring territory. and I'm not normally one to hate on interludes and atmosphere. but "Son the Father" is SO freaking good. the production and sound quality is crisp, polished, and generally well-done all around. I just keep finding myself skipping songs. - Mon, 25 Aug 2008 12:01am

hey man & nah I dont think it holds a candle to what they achieved on hidden world.

I find myself skipping songs as well - which is strange w/ FU for me - but it is a very erratic album & they make it really hard for you to get into it - which i think they intended - but who knows.
son the Father is a RAGER & can't wait to hear it live - same w/ Crooked Head & of course the title track - so fucking good. - Thu, 28 Aug 2008 7:25pm
