Unholy fuck!! this is too fucking great to even put into words. Somehow DB has out done themselves with an album more intense and mesmerizing than Puritanical. With an orchestra that has almost tripled in size and insane arrangements this makes one proud to be a fan. A lot darker in theme and incredible song writting. Besides Vital Remains this is my favourite release of the whole fucking year! - Fri, 10 Oct 2003 1:08pm

Dimmu is so fucking stupid. Why would you listen to a buncha homo's with "Corpsepaint" and "bulletbelts". Thats not very Christian. Jesus is the way Shawn.

This album clocks in at about 63 minutes and there are no ballads. Corpse paint or not the star of this album is drummer Nick Barker. The man doesn't let up at all. The guitars are crunchy but not really groundbreaking. I dig the keyboards and orchestration. I heard a comment that Metallica could learn a thing or two about production from this album and Arch Enemy's new one as well as the new Maiden which all kick St. Anger straight in the Testes.
Dimmu has a recent 1 & 1/2 concert online @ http://www.fabchannel.com - you have to sign up e-mail but it's a free show. Some other good ones there as well. - Sat, 11 Oct 2003 12:38am

I like this album, but I liked Puritanical more. Faster, better riffs, heavier. I will agree that the orchestra definitely adds more to the songs. After listening to the disc in its entirety a couple of times, I felt like I wanted more. Yeah, and Nick Barker fucking kicks ass. Nothing overly flashy, but he oozes style. His drum sound on this album is the only thing I like better about it. Not as triggered and artificial sounding. Have any of you guys seen the video for "Progenies of the Great Apocalypse?"
There's a girl all tied up on this wheel looking thing, and you can see her hooters. So metal. - Sat, 11 Oct 2003 10:21am

This album is fuckin' sweet. Have to agree with John though, I do like 'Puritanical Euphoric Misanthropia' better, but at least they're not starting to suck. The first 5 songs pretty much kick ass all the way through...track 6 & 9 are slower but as far as trying to create the whole post-apocalyptic theme (which is why I think some of the songs were the way they were) they did a wicked job. Not much from Vortex this time though, which surprised me a bit. A lot of people (or at least people I know) don't like his vocals but I fucking love them. Apart from Nick's drumming I thought Vortex's clean vocals were another highlight of the botched Cryptopsy-Krisiun-Dimmu Borgir show at the Wettbar in Vancouver in 2001 (Fucking walked in right when Cryptopsy finished!!! AAAAAUGHHHHH!!!!)
I'll try to not go there and turn this thread into something else mind you, but seriously, this album is worth picking up. Looking even more forward to the Dec 1st show at the Commodore!!!! Already got my ticket!!! - Tue, 14 Oct 2003 2:52pm

yeah actually the only downside is that Vortex only sings in two songs. He is fucking awesome. Hey I saw the same tour in Seattle and it was fucking grand. They are pretty damn good live considering they are sans orchestra. - Tue, 14 Oct 2003 3:51pm

Ah, like I said, almost everybody I know hates Vortex's vocals, but fuck 'em. I'm not gonna change my opinion to please anyone, his vocals rule. So despite CTK's comment, I'll still be willing to support his cannabalistic-vampire-nightclub. No hard feelings... - Tue, 14 Oct 2003 5:11pm

Actually, I like Vortex vocals.. I thought he did a good job at the Wett Bar too.. Barker on the other hand looked tired and off time, and his double kick was very inconsistent, maybe he was just worn out from the road. - Wed, 15 Oct 2003 10:04am

From what I've heard of Norwegian Metal bands, Vortex is the only person I've heard who actually sings. While Shagrath is a cool frontperson, I would consider him a vocallist as opposed to a singer and that goes for most european "Metal" bands. Real "singers" are few and far between. Vortex definately has some pipes. Can't say I'm a big fan of his old band Borknager tho. - Wed, 15 Oct 2003 5:31pm

This album rules but once again, I am another who prefers Puritanical. Adrian just played the album last night for me though so opinions may change. Nick barker rules. Plain and simple. He is no Flo but he is damn good at those blast beats. I would like to hear some more fills though. I always like it when there are constant fills every 2-3 bars. It keeps the drumming somewhat forefront and really gives you an idea of how the drummer likes to play. I bought my Dimmu tickets on presale. No way am I missing Children of Bodom. No fucking way. - Sat, 18 Oct 2003 6:33pm

I just got Spiritual Black Dimmensions which is, of course, lacking a Mr. Barker and the difference is so phenomenal it hurts. The band just isn't the same without him. - Sat, 18 Oct 2003 8:45pm

As far as Borknager goes, the only album I like is their latest Empiricism, which was after they did the switch with Dimmu.. Its worth checking out.. - Sun, 19 Oct 2003 2:51pm
