In singer Sabina Sciubba, Brazilian Girls have perhaps the most exotic frontwoman in contemporary rock. The singer speaks six languages and, on the New York band’s new album, even makes up her own words. But Brazilian Girls isn’t just its singer—the quartet concocts a fusion of pop, rock, electro, dub, and dance for a sound that is truly unique, and as perfect for rock clubs as it is for dance spots. The group’s 2005 Verve Forecast debut earned Brazilian Girls a ton of hype, and how could it not? The danceable, hooky record sounded totally fresh, and people couldn’t stop talking about Sabina and her outlandish outfits and charismatic stage presence.

Talk to La Bomb, the group’s second album, is even better, and first single “Jique” is beyond hot—it’s the great, dirty pop/punk/electro fusion single Blondie never made.
