Event Archive - Reverend Horton Heat, Horrorpops, Throw Rag

Fri. July 14th 2006 The Commodore Ballroom (No Minors)
9pm doors at 8pm
Tickets at: All Ticketmaster Locations, Zulu Records, Scratch Records
Presented by: Live Nation

The Commodore played host to many a legendary show in the '90s. But in the midst of the punk legends, the grunge upstarts and the Britpop shoegazers who shared its stage, one act reigned supreme: the Reverend Horton Heat.

The Reverend's live performances at Vancouver's world famous Ballroom are talked about to this day. And, after nearly twenty years of rollicking punkabilly, Jim Heath (aka the Reverend) and his band of roustabouts (Jimbo Wallace, upright bass; Scott Churilla, drums) are still at it, serving up a greasy, sweaty, swampy sound that appeals to fans of all stripes.

Revival, the trio's latest, is its first for Yep Roc, one of the most respected American indie labels ever, and was recorded in Dallas, near where the Reverend played his first gig. Themes run from the serious (heroin addiction in "Indigo Friends") to silly ("Calling in Twisted", about calling in sick to work and "using the fake cough") and includes more tracks sure to find themselves in the Heat classic canon like "Sue Jack Daniels", "Nurture My Pig!" and "Psychobilly Freakout". You won't find any newfangled electronic programming or stunt casting on Revival, instead, it's what Reverend Horton Heat does best, 40 minutes of rockabilly, blues and R&B that's ripe and ready for concert treatment and more legendary shows.
