DOORS 7:30 pm SHOW 8:30 pm

Every Evan Dando show is a special event, and it's not just because the singer/ songwriter tours sporadically. With a catalogue of songs that helped define the alt-rock glory days of the '90s, Dando has a special place in the hearts and minds of a generation of music-lovers who came of age with Sonic Youth, Nirvana and Lollapalooza.

His records with his band the Lemonheads, which include It's a Shame About Ray and Come On Feel the Lemonheads, were full of heart-on-sleeve guitar-pop melancholy. Songs like "My Drug Buddy," "Into Your Arms," "Big Gay Heart" and "Confetti" sound as relevant and soulfully insightful today as they did back then.

While the group never quite capitalized on the success of their biggest hit, a top 20 cover of Simon and Garfunkel's "Mrs. Robinson," Dando has continued to tour to the delight of fans who simply can't forget the beautiful simplicity of his melodies, and newer fans searching for emotionally relevant pop. Dando's freewheeling sets are dictated by mood, emotion and atmosphere, not record sales or promotion, and range from Gram Parsons and John Prine covers to old Lemonheads tunes to newer collaborations with people like Ben Lee.

Lee, the Australian wunderkind who once wrote a song called "I Wish I Was Him" about Dando, helped write some of the material on Baby I'm Bored, Dando's most recent release and his first new record in seven years. The album was a delightful return to form and featured some of the singer's best work in years, including the Lee-penned weeper "Hard Drive" and the buzzing guitar-pop of "The Same Thing."

Don't miss Evan Dando when he performs live at the Red Room on Saturday, July 16th with special guests.
