Presented by: Colin MacDonald
Classical saxophonist and composer Colin MacDonald presents original works and arrangements of romantic favourites for alto saxophone. Colin is joined by Chris Morano on piano, and Kathryn Emiko Lee on violin. Although the saxophone was invented in the 1840s and was designed to perform the passionate melodies of Romantic music, it did not receive recognition by the major composers of the day. This program establishes the saxophone as a romantic instrument with the sensual Brahms Clarinet Sonata in Fm, op. 120 no. 1, arranged for alto saxophone; the contemporary Trio After Brahms by David deBoor Canfield, for alto saxophone, violin, and piano; and Colin MacDonald's Polys Tonos for alto saxophone and piano.
