Kool Keith, is an American rapper from The Bronx, New York. A founding member of Ultramagnetic MCs, Kool Keith has recorded prolifically both as a solo artist and in group collaborations. Kool Keith is the self-proclaimed inventor of horrorcore, and is generally considered to be one of hip-hop’s most eccentric and unusual personalities.

After continuing with Ultramagnetic for two more albums, Thornton released his first notable solo single, “Earth People,” in 1995, under the name Dr. Octagon. This was followed by the release of Dr. Octagonecologyst the following year. The album’s production was acclaimed by critics, and the album was released nationally by DreamWorks Records in 1997 (after an initial release on the smaller Bulk Recordings label a year prior). DreamWorks also issued an instrumental version of the album, titled Instrumentalyst. Thornton followed the album with Sex Style in 1997, under the name he would henceforth be known as, Kool Keith.

Onyx is an American hardcore hip hop group from South Jamaica, Queens, New York. The group is composed of East Coast rappersSticky Fingaz, Fredro Starr and Sonsee (formerly Suavé and Sonee Seeza, respectively). The late Big DS (Marlon Fletcher) was also a member, but left after the group’s debut album.

The group was formed in 1988 and Onyx released its first 12″ single, “Ah, And We Do It Like This”, in 1990. After the track Onyx signed a recording contract with Def Jam and were promised an album which became 1993′s Bacdafucup LP. The album met with great commercial success, including heavy airplay on radio and MTV for the single “Slam”. Onyx also performed withBiohazard on the tune “Judgment Night”, taken from the soundtrack album of the same name. Onyx also received critical acclaim, winning Soul Train’s album of the year.
