Starring Jayleen Stonehouse with Musical Director Olaf de Shield
I have always felt an emotional connection whenever I’ve performed a Dinah Washington song. After two years of intense research, writing, editing and workshopping. A Stranger on Earth will be performed celebrating Dinah’s life on the 50th anniversary of her passing. As a singer I have dug deep to refine and define the story of one of musical history’s greatest singers. I can’t wait to take you on this exciting, engaging and soulful journey of Dinah’s life and career through story and song.
When I discovered that A Stranger on Earth was the last song Dinah recorded and that she stated would be her biggest hit, the story of her life, that had to become the title of the show!
After many months of rehearsal, I performed a small, intimate scaled down version of the show with pianist Ron Van Dyke to see what the response would be, and it was amazing! The energy in the room, the comments, and the total response to the show was overwhelming. We could not have asked for a better outcome. This was when I knew we had a show that was worthy of a large theatre’s. From Branah’s we continued with the show’s growth to perform a sold out show at the beautiful atmospheric theatre of New Westminster, The Columbia. Built in 1927, this theatre was a perfect fit for the Dinah Washington show and suited it to a tee; it was a little piece of heaven on earth.
You can check out small samples of what the show will present to you
Musical Director Olaf de Shield and I have put together a stellar band comprising of Nick Apivor on Piano, Malcolm Aiken on Trumpet, Dave Say on Saxophone, Mark Bender on Acoustic Bass and Jesse Cahil on Drums and of course Olaf on Guitar.
Come celebrate the life and career of Dinah with us and have a little Christmas cheer at the same time, we hope to see you there!
Tickets are $25.00 and can be purchased through EventBrite, at FanClub or by contacting Jayleen.
