Harp All-Day Intensive with Marta Cook

MORNING SESSION (10am-1pm): Core Fluidity

In the morning, Marta will cover the ground-breaking, truly amazing "core fluidity" concepts and techniques that she has found a uniquely effective way to communicate and teach. This workshop is for all harp players and IS NOT TO BE MISSED - it will change you and it will change your playing - no matter what kind of harp music you enjoy, or what level your playing is currently at! Suitable for all harp players who want to participate, or just audit. Not suitable for non-harpists.
For rave reviews visit "shut up and play".

AFTERNOON SESSION (2:30pm-5:30pm): Irish Music

In the afternoon, class will begin with a brief overview of the aesthetics of Irish music, with listening examples and some reference to history (what makes Irish music Irish: context, repertoire, ornaments, how harps can appropriately participate, and arrange music within the context). Context will continually be referenced through the hands-on material we will work on during the remainder of the class. We will learn one very simple tune, and if time permits, something more complicated (ideally students will learn the tunes ahead of time, so that class time can be spent going through the tunes in minute detail, learning to create personal expression within the Irish aesthetic). There will be time for specific questions about tunes participants already play, and explanations about how to apply what we learned today to participants' own repertoire.

If you enjoy "Celtic" music, creating your own arrangements, or have a special interest in "authentic" Irish style, then you can't afford to miss this class! Non-harp instruments are very welcome in this afternoon class, since most of the material will be just as applicable to any other instrument as to the harp!

Extensive online materials will be available for continuing learning after the workshop concludes (handouts, tutorial videos, the whole history course, etc).

Cost to participate: $150 per person, for the whole day (6 hrs), or $75 per person, for 3 hr class (payable in advance).
Cost to audit: $50.00 per class ($95.00 to audit the 6 hrs, whole day).
