oronto-based saxophonist/flutist and bandleader Jane Bunnett has built a career merging jazz with Cuban folkloric roots music. The multi-award-winning musician has turned her bands into showcases for the finest musical talent from Canada, the U.S., and Cuba. Paquito D’Rivera, the great Cuban saxophonist declares that “Jane is brilliant.” Bunnett’s Cuban connection started in 1982 when a trip to the island turned her musical world upside down. “Over the years I developed relationships with some of Cuba’s legendary musicians…and that’s what has fueled my vision,” says Bunnett. Jane’s recordings, including Red Dragonfly and Radio Guantanamo, are the most recent expressions of her very personal Cuban-jazz fusion. On record and in live performance Bunnett continues to find new twists in her Afro-Cuban/jazz collaborations. Her band explodes with energy and vitality. With Elio Villafranca piano, Yunior Terry bass, Larry Cramer trumpet, Francisco Mela percussion/vocals.
