Jazz Festival Sessions: Three Tuesdays in June at VPL

Jazz Festival Sessions give you a taste of the music, the history, and the magic of jazz. Join our jazz experts for lively presentations that will get you primed and ready for the TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

This year the Sessions are introducing the launch of JazzStreet Vancouver, an online historical scrapbook about the history of jazz in Vancouver. JazzStreet Vancouver goes “live” on the World Wide Web June 20, 2008, the opening day of the TD Canada Trust Vancouver International Jazz Festival.

Tuesday, June 3--JazzStreet Vancouver: Local Legends with Alan Matheson

This exciting guided listening tour pays tribute to three of Vancouver’s greatest jazz luminaries: pianist Doug Parker; trombonist Dave Robbins (1923-2005); and multi-instrumentalist Lance Harrison (1920-2000).

Alan Matheson

Alan Matheson is a Canadian trumpeter, pianist, composer and arranger. He studied with Vincent Cichowicz at Northwestern University (Evanston, Illinois) and graduated with a degree in performance.
