Kid Koala Dec 28th
While it didn't have quite the same pervasive cultural impact as say "Achy Breaky Heart" , in the world of turntablism, Kid Koala's "Drunken Trumpet" can be regarded as nothing less than a touchstone. One of the most technically proficient, innovative, and flat out entertaining turntablists in the world, Eric San (Kid Koala) has the deft ability to take a few turntables, a mixer, a stack full of records, and some well chosen visual accompaniment and turn it all into a full-on magic show. Sampling elements of hip hop, jazz, swing, blues, electronic, avant, pop, and folk, Kid Koala's seamless genre bending mixes often take on a life all their own (quite literally). Following a massive 90-date world tour (which included a stop at the 2007 Vancouver Jazz Festival) in support of his most recent album, Your Mom's Favourite DJ, Kid Koala drops into Vancouver for this one-off, pre-new year gig at the newly re-minted Biltmore. The show may be wedged into that awkward time after Christmas and before the new year, but we guarantee there will be no better way to beat the holiday doldrums than with a trip to Vancouver's newest bastion of live music and a night filled with jaw-dropping turntable pyrotechnics.
