As the lead singer of Metric, Emily Haines knows something about dynamics, atmosphere, and capturing an audience’s attention. Through four years of relentless touring and two albums of guitar- and keyboard-driven rock, the U.S.-Canada co-production has established itself as one of the most cutting-edge groups on the contemporary rock scene. Emily has also worked with the critically praised Toronto band Broken Social Scene, as well as Canadian acts like Jason Collett, Stars, and Delerium.

Now, with Knives Don’t Have Your Back, Emily’s gifts are even more at the fore. With austere arrangements highlighting her captivating voice, nimble melodies, image-laden lyrics, and fleet-fingered keyboard playing, the solo album presents another side of the singer. The Emily Haines of Knives Don’t Have Your Back and its first single “Doctor Blind” is softer, quieter, and perhaps even more striking than the rock goddess most listeners are familiar with. Having already played packed shows in Toronto, Emily is taking her solo act on the road, giving audiences across North America a chance to see this unique artist coming into her own.
