Traditional vocal jazz from Vancouver BC
Instruments: Vocals, Piano/Keyboards details
Angela Verbrugge is a vocalist becoming more and more active on the west coast of Canada's vibrant music scene. She performs jazz standards, tunes from old musicals, and traditional pop music of the Great American Songbook. She delights in finding forgotten gems. She has a passion for re-interpreting big-band arrangements of jazz standards for quartets.
Angela is a vocalist committed to what Tony Bennett calls “America’s classical music”, and backs up her collaboration with band members by having strong music theory skills of having studied classical piano and played in big bands in high school. Angela can be heard performing at various venues around Vancouver including restaurants, clubs, hotels, corporate events, art galleries, swing dances, and outdoor city events.
She works with a variety of talented musicians to tailor each performance to the client's needs and budget (past ensembles have included Dan Reynolds, Sharon Minemoto, Mike Allen, Geoff Claridge, Craig Scott, Paul Rushka, Tom Arntzen, Nino DiPasquale, Steve Smith, Biil Piggott, Jamie Croil, Steve Smith, Kristian Braathen, Wynston Minckler, Michael Wagler). When she performed a gig with former Vancouver Sun arts reviewer and drummer Marke Andrews' band, Marke wrote: "...a fine vocalist and an engaging performer who communicates a song's lyrics to the audience." She founded a group called verBrugge - vintage jazz with verve, specializing in the WW2 era popular music that is popular during Remembrance Day events.
