Alternative Rock from Vancouver BC
Russian born singer/songwriter Elza relocated to Israel at the age of 15. It was there that she discovered her aptitude for singing and guitar, as well as the various genres of 90s alternative music that so inspire her sound today, though she finds more of her early classical piano training actually shining through in her arrangements.
While in Tel Aviv, she attended school for audio engineering and sound design, all the while developing her guitar and vocal style inspired by artists like Tori Amos, PJ Harvey, Beth Gibbons and Anneke van Giersbergen.
After her move to Vancouver, Canada almost four years ago, Elza began to explore the vibrant local open mic scene, where she and her music received a warm welcome. She first began experimenting with recording at home with a small computer setup. Her sound, musicianship and passion developed gradually and organically from personal experience.
Finally however, Elza decided it was time to commit some of her explorations of texture and composition to physical form. The next six months were spent writing, arranging and producing each and every part of a five-song EP, to be named Glories. She then took her work to engineer Michael Kraushaar at Bully’s Studios, where the two worked with studio musicians on guitar, bass, drums, trombone and cello to manifest her work in finished physical and digital formats. The result is Glories, a deeply intimate and personal exploration of harmony and rhythm, and Elza’s debut in the recording world.
Elza currently performs with a 6-piece band composed of Blue Morris – guitar, Steve Botel – guitar, Darryl Greer – bass guitar, Phi Van – drums, Franki Lemon – cello, Kobi Moldavski – keys. edit profile
