Igniting the Gender Revolution:

An open discussion on building (rebuilding) a political movement in B.C.

Room 1520

12 – 1 pm

Lukas Maitland (trannyfag, AIDS activist, member of Queers United Against Kapitalism) will facilitate a discussion on how we can build/rebuild a gender radical political movement in BC. We will explore past successes and failures, building allies within feminist movements, the problems with current community organizing, and the overlapping of oppressions like sexism, racism and classism that keep us divided and disillusioned with each other. We will also look at how organizing in terms of transperson/soffa (significant other, family, friend, ally) create a heterosexist (or at minimum hetero-focused) transcommunity. We will explore division within our communities (transwomen/transmen, transgender/transsexual/dragking/gender queer, for example) and the roots of these divisions in racism, colonization, sexism, and transphobia. Please come prepared to talk and to strategize for the future.

Everyone who wants to discuss the issues and work on solutions is welcome.

Combining frequent and dynamic mobilizations with educational events such as forums and conferences, they have continuously illustrated that the anti-war movement is needed now more than ever. For their R4C workshop, MAWO will highlight the particular struggles faced by women in times of war & occupation and also highlight the work that many women are doing in resistance to Imperialism.

“Where Will You Be on May 17th?”

Room 1510

3:30 – 4:30

Only 34% of us* voted last time we had the chance.

Is it a sign that we've all gotten wise to the system and stepped out? Are
we too lazy, too bored and too cynical? Should we do something different
next time? If we don't vote, what can we do to hold our government(s)
accountable?

Come discuss the possibilities of mobilization for the upcoming Provincial
election at the Get Your Vote On workshop.

* "Us" refers to eligible 18-34 year old voters. And last time‚ is the BC provincial election.
