. Friday, Jan 30th IMU presents LOS CAMINOS CD Release Party w/ special guests SWANK, The SURF MESSIAHS & MEXICAN DRUG PATROL @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir

LOS CAMINOS is a surf rock band with a fiery brand of rock instrumentals that mix twang, echo and harder-edged rock guitar with influences from the likes of Link Wray, Dick Dale, The Ventures, Herb Alpert, Ennio Morricone and many others. Their music is a heavier, more modern version of the great bands of the '50s and '60s with their own style thrown in. Their debut CD "Bullets for Bread" displays a variety of tempos and moods that makes it impossible to keep still. "If you're a fan of long whammified chords and somber imagery, this band is surely for you. Sweeping visuals, aquatic feelings, dark and moody, and very satisfying." http://www.myspace.com/loscaminosmusic

SWANK delivers an unholy alliance of rock, country, soul, gospel, blues and punk styles that go together like moonshine & mason jars, preaching & sinning, Vegas & vice. The glorious mayhem that is Swank live has earned them a loyal fan base on both sides of the Atlantic in the wake of regular hometown shows and two memorable tours of the UK and Ireland. Their raucous shows combine truly original material with choice covers from greats such as Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Screamin Jay Hawkins, serving the very finest in high-octane, foot-stomping barroom belligerence while leaving few mouths shut or asses seated in the process. http://www.myspace.com/iwantswank

MEXICAN DRUG PATROL - Formerly known as The HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS, Mexican Drug Patrol brings blazing electric desert surf rock to the clubs of Vancouver. The guitars of James Elwood and Ben Fussell do the talking, backed up by Tony Dallas on drums and the recent addition of Dave Wise of Fuzzcat on bass. The band is hard at work recording their first album, which will be stuffed to the gills with original instrumental rock tunes. http://www.myspace.com/mexicandrugpatrol

The SURF MESSIAHS are Vancouver's newest instrumental surf/garage/rock band. Their influences include all the great surf bands: Link Wray, Shadowy Men On A Shadowy Planet, Dick Dale, Huevos Rancheros, Man Or Astroman, Satan's Pilgrims, Los Straitjackets, Agent Orange, Hawaii Samurai, Slacktone, The Woodies, The Surf Coasters and many others. Surf's up... better get on board quick before the waves crash down! http://www.myspace.com/thesurfmessiahs

Swank (Cowpunk Meets 60's Garage)

Swank's first album, "Pappy's Corn Squeezins" (2001) was conceived by the band to sound like The Ramones playing Johnny Cash. Produced by Howard Redekopp, the album was described by the legendary Ray Condo as "New Wave Country"-an apt description for a fine debut that holds its own to this day. The group's second album "The Survival Issue" (2004... more info
