The Vancouver Chamber Choir invites you to join us in supporting the growth and development of talented young musicians through our Young Composers Program. A major component of the program is this biennial Youth & Music concert which presents works by great composers when they were young, new pieces by previous competition winners and the 2009 version of the Young Composers Competition. Young conductor John William Trotter and veteran Artistic Director Jon Washburn share the conducting duties.

I Young Great Composers
Choral works written by Mozart, Mendelssohn, Britten and Walton in their youth.

II Great Young Composers
Premieres of five new choral pieces commissioned for this event from previous participants in the Young Composers Competition and Interplay programs.

III Young Composers Competition 2009
Performance of nominated pieces in the Elementary, Secondary and College/University categories, announcement of winners and presentation of awards.

IV Interplay Discoveries
Performance of works by composers discovered through the Interplay program of composer workshops.

Vancouver Chamber Choir

The Vancouver Chamber Choir is Canada's outstanding professional vocal ensemble. Based on the Pacific Coast in British Columbia, conductor Jon Washburn and his twenty singers are noted for their diverse repertoire and performing excellence. Jon Washburn

Jon Washburn is the Conductor and Artistic Director of Canada's outstanding professional vocal ensemble, the Vancouver Chamber Choir. Well known internationally for his mastery of choral technique and interpretation, Washburn travels widely as guest conductor, lecturer, clinician, and master teacher.
