. Friday, Sept 26th I.M.U. presents The MATINEE Tour Kick-off Party w/ MATTHEW MEI & YOU BRIGHT MINDS Tour Homecoming w/ WAR OF THE MINDS & DAVE PHILLIPS @ The Railway Club, 579 Dunsmuir

The MATINEE has emerged as one of the west coast’s premier independent bands. Blending a passion for fine ale and finely crafted tunes, The Matinée offer a unique spin on a roots-rock sound that is quickly attracting both national and international audiences. Writing songs that paint pictures of empty bottles and broken hearts, broken bottles and empty hearts, their collection of songs has effortlessly come to life. As they continue with their hard-nosed, do it yourself, blue collar work ethic, there is little doubt that this show is worth the price of admission. Hold on to your seats… it’s showtime for The Matinée!

MATTHEW MEI - Having traveled the world as the son of a preacher man, Matt's initial introduction to the world of music was his dads classical, old blues and folk records, but it was his struggles in life and his soulful growth that fueled his desire to write emotional and heartfelt songs.

Matt teamed up with Jonathan Anderson (Jonathan Inc.) at Buena Vista Studios to create a thoughtful album that showcased some of his favorite songs he had written over the years.

WAR OF THE MINDS can do things mere mortals can only dream of — playing instruments with three hands at once, singing with forked melodies, winning music competitions held on other planets, and transfusing their potent musical elixir into your bloodstream with a thrilling combination of intense guitars, commanding vocals, inventive bass and rollercoaster drums. Their riff-heavy music is dynamic and contagious with a darkly grooving edge, bridging epic guitar rock with female-fronted psychedelia into an explosive new sound. DAVE PHILLIPS - Freshly returned from a solo tour across Great Britain and Ireland, this former frontman of The R.A.F. plays earnest, eloquently incoherent folk music from outer space. His journey took him to nearly every watering hole across the British Isles and resulted in memorable appearances with Manchester legend George Borowski and the Pontypridd Welsh Men's Choir. Back in Vancouver, the insatiable traveler began a new recording project with legendary Canadian producer Ben Mink (Feist, KD Lang, Geddy Lee), soon to be followed by more adventures on the road.

Shoot out the lights, and stone the roses—there’s some strong autobiography going on between the lines of The Matinée’s debut full-length album, We Swore We’d See the Sunrise. Taking its title from a line in “L’Absinthe”— the true story of a night of madness and delirium experienced while on tour in Quebec told between bouts of spa... more info

Dave Phillips (Roots/Folk)

In the last three years, travel and music have been Dave Phillips' education and livelihood. He began writing in earnest in 2006 when Ontario alt. country cowboys Brian Dunn and OX recruited him to play guitar at Vancouver's Profile Studio. He also began playing regularly in Vancouver's club scene with his band The R.A.F. making frequent appearance... more info
