One of the most hyped U.K. bands since the Arctic Monkeys, The View grew out of four friends playing Squeeze and Sex Pistols covers at a local pub in Dundee, Scotland. The band soon started writing its own songs, and coming up with engaging pop nuggets that resulted in an EP on a local label. After hearing the group, former Rough Trade A&R man James Endeacott signed The View, following a bidding war, to his label 1965 Records. The resulting debut full-length, Hats Off to the Buskers, is a nonstop barrage of hooks, from the infectious “The Don”, the razor-sharp and downright crazy “Skag Trendy”, the unquestionably brilliant “Wasted Little DJs”, and the singalong “Superstar Tradesman”. Blending the wit and guttersnipe humour of the Libertines with the melodic intuition of the Buzzcocks and Oasis, and working with producer Owen Morris (Oasis, the Verve), The View has come up with an album where every song brings something fresh and delivers effortlessy, every time. Bobby Gillespie declared The View his new favourite band after they’d supported Primal Scream on a handful of recent dates.
